Reminder: Mask requirements easing

From 6pm AEST Friday 4 March 2022:

  • Masks will no longer be required indoors, except in hospitals, residential aged care, disability accommodation, prisons, public transport, airports and on planes.
  • Masks will no longer be required in schools, including for staff, students and visitors.
  • Masks will still be recommended whenever you can’t social distance.
  • There will be no limit on the number of visitors you can have in your home at one time.
  • Venues and events will no longer have capacity limits.

Diabetes and COVID-19

Diabetes Australia is encouraging everyone with diabetes aged 5 and over to get vaccinated against COVID-19. They also encourage everyone with diabetes aged 16 years and over to get a booster dose as soon as they can.

First COVID-19 antiviral now listed on PBS

Thousands of vulnerable Australians, who are at risk of developing severe COVID-19, are now eligible to access an oral antiviral treatment through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). Listed as of  Tuesday 1 March 2022, GPs can now prescribe molnupiravir (sold as Lagevrio). Molnupiravir is recommended for the treatment of patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 who are at risk of developing severe disease requiring hospitalisation, not requiring supplemental oxygen for their COVID-19 and where treatment is commenced within 5 days of the onset of symptoms and meet one of the following criteria:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years or older with two additional high-risk factors for developing severe disease.
  • People 65 years or older with two additional high-risk factors for developing severe disease.
  • People 75 years or older with one additional high-risk factor for developing severe disease.
  • Moderately to severely immunocompromised people irrespective of vaccination status.
