Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine provisionally approved for 5-11 year olds

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has provisionally approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, COMIRNATY, for use in individuals five years and older.

This decision follows the provisional approvals granted by the TGA to Pfizer for the use of COMIRNATY in individuals 12 years and older on 22 July 2021 and the booster dose for use in adults 18 years and older on 26 October 2021.

The federal government has confirmed the vaccine rollout will begin on January 10, after the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation provided its recommendations around the program.

It is a critical tool to keeping Queenslanders safe and helping contact tracers in times of community transmission of COVID-19.

Spikevax (Moderna) vaccine at ATSICCHOs

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Organisations now can deliver the Spikevax (Moderna) COVID-19 vaccine. This is in addition to the Pfizer (Cominarty) and AstraZeneca (Vaxevria) vaccines which are already available to ATSICCHOs.
